Life at a "Swell's" pace

The last part of our Pacific Coast Highway journey home

On the last leg home from our Gold Beach, Oregon trip to ride on the Jerry's Rogue Jets, we stopped to enjoy the view of the edge of the United States. Remember, although it's the Pacific Coast, it technically is the farthest west you can go on the map of the United States before hitting the Pacific. Which to me, is pretty dang cool.

This giant American Flag was in Bandon. Only thing I wish was the wind was blowing to make it wave.

We stayed a little bit longer in Alsea to watch the sun go down on the horizon of the Pacific.

What happened this time last year?

Prehistoric Gardens

Along with our trip back up the Pacific Coast Highway, we stopped at Prehistoric Gardens on Highway 101. This garden of life-sized dinosaur models, shows what dinosaurs "may have" lived in the area, and some interesting facts about the area, like the Old Stage Coach Road, and a creek that gold miners frequented.

The dinosaurs from the parking lot caught our attention first. T-Rex was awesome!

Story of the plant life that grew during the time of the dinosaurs.

The annual rainfall for the area. A lot of people think that Oregon just gets rain constantly, but on an annual bases we get just as much, if not a little less, than some drier areas.

Old Stage Road that ran to the gold mining camps and helped the pioneers get to Oregon during the days of the gold rush.

It was fun to pretend.

Road Trip: Hike along the Oregon Coast Trail

On our way back from our jet boat excursion, we hiked along the Oregon coast with a trail system called the Oregon Coast Trail. There's a few of them along the path of the Pacific Coast Highway and you can see all of them at Our Oregon Coast website. There's a lot of trails and paths that will lead you from the Pacific Coast Highway, or one of the many Oregon State Parks that will take you right down to the edge of the Pacific Coast.

Parked in the parking lot was one of the Wicked Camper Vans. If you live anywhere near the west coast you've seen these, but if not, you should check out their website. It's totally groovy, and they seem to welcome the hippy lifestyle with these campers and encourage people to hit the road more with road trips, which is totally awesome!
